GUIDELINES FOR SWIMMERS, PARENTS & COACHES
 
The following guidelines explain what is expected from you and what you can expect from everyone else.


Swim Team Members
Rio del Oro swimmers will work with coaches to develop their individual swimming skills and to set and meet individual performance goals. Swimmers also will be responsible for meeting team requirements.
    Swimmers will:
        Attend practice regularly and on time.
        Know the required strokes.
        Participate at events as assigned by coaching staff.
        Check in on time before the start of each scheduled meet.
        Be in the ready area during meets, unless otherwise instructed.
        Discuss swimming- and team-related problems with the coaches.
        Demonstrate good sportsmanship.
        Follow team rules restricting access to club facilities during practice and meets.
        Sign out at least 8 days before any meet they are not attending.


Swim Team Parents Association
As part of the Rapids' Parent Association, parents will work with coaches and club management to plan and administer the swim season's activities. Parents will staff all swim meets and will plan all social and fundraising activities. Parents also are expected to maintain a positive attitude and to support the team's mission and the coaches' decisions.
    Parents will:
        Make sure their swimmers regularly attend practice and swim meets.
        Encourage swimmers to fulfill their team obligations.
        Notify coaches in writing if their child is unable to swim at practice or meets.
        Adhere to the Parent Volunteer Policy outlined in the team handbook.
        Promptly pay all fees.
        Discuss any issues with coaches outside of practice hours.
        Encourage swimmers to discuss team- and swimming-related problems with the coaches.
        Supply equipment recommended the the coaches, and label it.
        Check the family file at least once a week.
        Meet other parents and have fun!


Swim Team Coaches
The coaching staff will develop and carry out a recreational swimming program that meets the needs of all swimmers on the team. The staff will help swimmers improve their swimming technique, develop their swimming skills, and set personal and team goals. The coaching staff will conduct a swimming program that is productive, safe, and fun for each participant. The coaches will encourage competition in a manner that promotes good sportsmanship, team cooperation, and team support. Consistent with these goals, the coaching staff will strive for a successful season.
    Coaches will:
        Supervise all practices, meets, and swimming events.
        Maintain an atmosphere at practice that is conducive to learning.
        Familiarize themselves with the swimmers and their abilities.
        Instruct swimmers in all aspects of competitive swimming.
        Maintain an open line of communication with parents.
        Operate under the rules of the Northern CA Swim League.
